Strategic Hr in MATs

Needed by 2025 to meet demand

Reported unfilled vacancies in 2015

In 2015 left teaching while still of working age

£556 million...

34,500 teachers...

23% of secondaries...

26,500 new teachers...

Spent on agency recruitment by schools each year

The Problem

The number of secondary school teachers has been falling since 2010 and more teachers have been leaving the profession for reasons other than retirement since 2012. Teachers worry about heavy workloads while At the same time pupil numbers are rising and school finances are increasingly squeezed.

From the research we know that HR in schools has been traditionally operational; dealing with payroll, contracts etc. This is in stark contrast to the approach taken to HR outside of education which focuses on taking a holistic approach to attracting, developing, inspiring and retaining people. Our programme gives mats and schools the opportunity to use this knowledge and implement effective long term strategies to make their organisations great places to build careers for the future.

Leading Sustainable People Development in Education

Schools currently face unprecedented staffing and budgetary pressures, yet often lack the capacity and confidence to develop long term strategic HR policies to tackle them. This programme brings the expertise of organisation strategy leaders from outside of education to support MATs to respond effectively to these challenges. During the programme you will work closely with leading HR experts to deliver a short-term impact project on an area of your choosing. You will then be supported to develop the coherent, cost-effective and strategic practices needed to recruit, develop and retain the best staff and make your MAT an excellent place to work for the long term.
